Koby Radley Sits 1st in Southern Region Standings

Panola College rodeo team was back to work again Feb. 9-10 at Trinity Valley Community College in Athens, TX for the first rodeo of the spring season. The Men's Team, lead by Logan Cook, Travis Chapman, Koby Radley, and Michael Womack took second place.

Logan Cook, sophomore from Alto, started the spring right by placing in two of his three events. Logan's 9.3 second run in calf roping and 69 point ride in saddle bronc qualified him for the short go on Saturday night. The cowboy scored a 73 in the saddle bronc to take 3rd place in the short go.  Logan maintains his lead in the All Around standings as the number one cowboy in the region, while he is holding on to the number 2 position in the Saddle Bronc and is currently number 6 in the Calf Roping. Logan will be trying to best his season from last year where he finished number 7 in the nation.  Rodeo Coach Jeffrey Collins said, "Logan is a great cowboy and is a huge part of this team, I look for Logan to have the best season he has ever had."

Travis Chapman, sophomore from Spurger, maintained his 2nd place ranking in the bareback riding in the Southern Region, by taking 2nd in the short go and 3rd in the average.  Travis just missed the college finals last season and is determined to qualify this season. Coach Collins said, "Travis is a scrappy young man that I count on every week, to be prepared, be willing and ready every time we leave the house. I know his future here will be great and we love having him here at our program."

Bull rider Koby Radley, freshman from Holdren, LA, took over 1st place in the Southern Region standings with a ride of 84 to win the long go Friday night.  Unable to compete in the short go due to scheduling conflict with the pro rodeo in San Antonio, Koby finished 4th overall at the TVCC Rodeo.  Coach Collins states, "Koby is a very good bull rider with great goals and ambitions, one of those being a CNFR champion.  I am very confident he will see that goal come true this season. I have so much faith in Koby, it is worth having a few conflicts with his pro rodeos."

Michael Womack, freshman from Bastrop, scored a 63 in the long go of saddle bronco riding for a 5th place finish. Michael bucked off his horse in the short round but was still able to win 5th in the average. Jeffrey Collins said, "Michael is young but has lots of talent; he is tough, coachable and excited to become a great bronco rider. I see moments of greatness in him every week, when he gets it all put together he will be unbeatable."

The Ponies and Fillies will be back in action on the 23rd and 24th of this month in Robstown for the Kingsville-Texas A&M hosted rodeo.
