Fillies Basketball host Southern Arkansas Oct.20

The Panola College Women's Basketball team hosts Southern Arkansas University in a scrimmage at 4 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 20 in the A.J. Johnson Gym. The team competed at the Dave Neely Super Scrimmage on Sunday, Oct. 9.

On Tuesday, Oct. 25, the Fillies travel to Marshall to take on East Texas Baptist University in a 6:30 p.m. match-up before coming home to open up the season with the two-day Panola Classic tournament on November 4-5.

Coach Eddie Kite is assisted this year by Nalani Hernandez, who came to Panola after a year as an assistant coach at Western New Mexico University.

The 2016-2017 Women's Basketball Roster includes Daria Eremeeva, Moscow, Russia; Charlynn "Tyshelle" Perry, Austin; Nailah Beyah-Blount, El Paso; Patience Okpe, Makurdi, Nigeria; Waynenecka Wynn, Shreveport, La.; Stefany Lourenco, Sao Paulo, Brazil; Denasia Watson, Pittsburgh, Texas; Tameal Jones, Tyler; Genesis Riveria, Caracas, Venezuela; Tatyana Lacey, Pineland; Amanda Cruz, Brooklyn, N.Y.; Victoria Rushing, Nacogdoches; and Ekaterina Karchevskaya, Mogilev, Belarus.

Opening the season, the Fillies are ranked 8th, but, Athletic Director Don Clinton points out that their performance in fall scrimmages has "opened a few eyes."

Trinity Valley Community College is the top pick in the women's league, followed by Tyler – 91 points; Blinn-89; San Jacinto-88; Angelina-64; Kilgore-54; Bossier Parish-48; Panola-39; Jacksonville-32; Paris-25; and Coastal Bend-20.
