Fillies Conclude Holiday Play 1-1

The Panola Fillies concluded the 2017 year with a victory against Louisiana College (69-31) and began 2018 in a hard fought loss to No. 9 Jones County (81-78).

The Fillies displayed a solid defensive effort holding Louisiana College to 31 points. The Fillies would have a slow first half start, but use its defense to propel themselves to victory. The Fillies would hold the Lady Wildcats to two quarters of single digit scoring.

The Fillies were led by sophomore forward (15) and sophomore guard Maryia Adashchyk (14).

Tuesday night the Fillies would lace up for a battle against No. 9 Jones County in the Lady Cavs Classic in Shreveport, LA. The Fillies would find themselves in 14 point hole in the first quarter after a slow start with turnover and empty possessions.

Panola would outscore the lady Bobcats in the second to head into the break only down 2 points. The second half would see several lead changes and tied game situations. The Fillies would enter the 4th quarter with a 57-55 lead.

Fillies found themselves in a scoring drought with 3 minutes left. Fouls and free throws enabled the lady Bobcats to take the lead as the time ran down. Panola found themselves down 4 with 1 minute to go. A crucial triple from deep from sophomore Ekaterina Karchevskaya brought the Fillies within 1 with 34.9 seconds remaining.  A solid defensive stance forced the Lady Bobcats to call a timeout. The Lady Bobcats would head to free throw line and sink both.

With the score 81-78, the Fillies would advance the ball and have a last chance shot with 8.3 seconds left with the game. A missed three pointer and secured rebound by Jones County would end the game.

The Fillies were led by sophomores Patience Okpe (22), Eremeeva (19), and Karchevskaya (16).

The Fillies return to conference action January 10th at 530 pm versus No. 6 Trinity Valley in AJ
