Fillies Secure Conference Championship for the First Time in 40 Years


The Fillies finish at the top of Region 14 play with a 16-4 record after completing the week with two wins. Panola defeated Bossier Parish CC 69-65 & Paris 67-61.

Wednesday night, the Fillies jumped out to a 5-0 lead early in the game against BPCC. This would be one of only two leads that the Fillies would have as the game progressed in the first half. At the break the Fillies trailed by 10.

The Fillies would see the lead balloon to as many as 20. After regrouping the Fillies would turn up the heat and cut the deficit to single digits. Panola would take the lead for the first time since the start of the game with a just under 1 minute left in the game. Free throws by Patience Okpe would secure the win at the end of the game.

The same night the Fillies honored nine sophomores a they played their final game in AJ Gym. The Fillies ended regular season play undefeated at home with a 13-0 record. 

In Paris,  the Fillies would jump out early and secure a solid lead for most all of the game with tight execution and defensive steals. However the Dragons of Pars would not give up that easy. Paris would cut the lead to 4 with about four minutes left in the game. The Fillies would make one last unanswered run. The run secured the win and theConference Championship.

The Fillies begin the Regional Tournament Wednesday as the number one seed. The will play Bossier Parish at 1 pm in Jacksonville.
