Fillies Finish Week 2-1, Including Sweep in 9th Annual Dig Pink Match

Panola College Volleyball traveled to Pasadena for a mid week tri-match with Temple College and host San Jacinto College. After sweeping Temple (25-8, 25-17, 25-22), the Fillies fell in 5 to San Jac (26-28, 25-20, 27-25, 24-26, 13-15). The week was capped off with a sweep of Cedar Valley (25-15, 25-11, 25-15) in the team’s annual Dig Pink match.

Against Temple, Panola was led in kills by a trio of freshmen: Daphinie Correa (8), Thaynara Godoi (7), and Audrey Slaten (5). Setters Cayman Sutton and Kinly Carter combined for 39 assists, 20 and 19 respectively. Slaten led the team in digs with 13, sophomore Camie Copeland added 8, and freshman Rebecca Rabius picked up 7 of her own. Godoi also assisted on 3 blocks.

Sophomore Kaitlyn Adams had a stellar match for the Fillies in the loss to San Jac, recording 16 kills and 4 block assists. Rebecca Rabius chipped in 11 kills, with Audrey Slaten and Barbara Sabino adding 10 apiece. Cayman Sutton dished out 28 assists and picked up 13 digs, with Kinly Carter picking up 21 assists. Sabino and Daphinie Correa combined for 12 block assists (6 each) and Camie Copeland led the floor with 20 digs. Slaten and Rabius rounded out the defense with 15 and 11 digs each.

The week was capped off with a night to support survivors and those battling Breast Cancer through the work of the Side-Out Foundation with Panola Volleyball's annual Dig Pink match. Panola was led by Sabino with 7 kills and 4 total blocks, Adams with 6 kills and 3 block assists, and sophomore Melanie Casteel added 5 kills. Sutton dished out 24 assists and Copeland picked up 13 digs in the win.

The Fillies will have one more week of non-conference play, traveling to Missouri State-West Plains for the weekend Grizzly Invitational where they will take on Hutch, Jefferson, West Plains and Indian Hills.
