Panola Basketball to Compete in Region Tourney

Panola College Ponies and Fillies have earned berths in the Region XIV Basketball Conference Tournament bracket, according to Don Clinton, Athletic Director and Vice President of Student Services. Centenary College hosts the 2020 tournament in the Gold Dome beginning Tuesday, March 3 and running through Saturday, March 7.

The Ponies, ranked No. 8, will face off against Jacksonville (No. 9) at 1 p.m. on Tuesday. Tyler Junior College, ranked No. 1, has a bye and will play the winner of the Panola-Jacksonville game at 1 p.m. on Thursday.

Semifinal games will be played at 6 and 8 p.m. on Friday, with the championship game set for 8 p.m. on Saturday.

The Panola College Fillies, ranked No. 3, will play Angelina (No. 6) at 8 p.m. on Wednesday, March 4 in the first round of the women's regional tournament. Semifinal games are set for 1 and 3 p.m. on Friday, and the championship game will be 5:30 p.m. on Saturday.

"I couldn't be prouder of our coaches," Clinton said. "To lead their teams to the region tournament in their first year as head coach at Panola is quite an accomplishment. Aaron Smith and Alex Furr are laying a foundation for many years of success coaching the Ponies and the Fillies."
