Seahawks open Region 14 play against Panola Ponies

For the Seahawks, the first test will be a big one.

Lamar State College Port Arthur will face NJCAA Top 25 team Panola College to open the NJCAA Region 14 competition for the 2022-23 season. The Ponies, ranked No. 24 in the country, is 6-1 this season and looking to continue its winning ways as conference play begins.

The Seahawks, though, will have something to say about that as they defend their perfect home-court record. The game tips at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, November 30, in the Carl Parker Center in Port Arthur. The game will be broadcast live starting at 6:40 p.m. with Dave Hofferth at the microphone.

"If you're going to prove that you can win, you need to beat the best," said LSCPA Head Coach Lance Madison. "Panola is a quality team and they'll bring everything they have to Wednesday's game. We'll need to be prepared to play our best game. That's a fact in Region 14. Every game is a battle."

The Ponies have four players averaging in double-figures, led by sophomore guard Marcus Greene's 15 points per game. His best game came against New Mexico Junior College on November 12 when he scored 30 points.

Scherbakov has hit a team-high 39 3-pointers this year, averaging 56.5 percent from beyond the arc.
