McLennan Highlanders top Ponies
The No. 6 McLennan Highlanders extended their win streak to seven games with a 10-7 victory over the Panola Ponies this afternoon at Bosque River Ballpark. Henry Cone got the win on the mound and Wyatt Wiatrek picked up the save.
Panola began the scoring with four runs in the second inning. Peter Werth walked and Giovanni Febus doubled. Werth scored on a sacrifice fly by Sawyer Smith. Sean Monsour singled to score Febus, and Raydley Legito singled. Luca Pastor followed with a single to score Monsour and Legito.
McLennan responded with three runs in the bottom of the inning. Aidan Kuni walked and Katcher Halligan singled, both scoring on Blake Hansen's home run.
The Highlanders took the lead with three runs in the third. Elijah Rodriguez singled and advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt by Jason Hawkins. Kuni and Xander McAfee both walked, loading the bases. Halligan then singled to score Rodriguez and Kuni. Hansen then singled to score McAfee.
Three runs in the fourth gave the Ponies the lead. Legito walked, stole his way around to third and scored on a ground out by Haziel Cruz. Austin Morgan reached on an error and Raphael Smeenk was hit by the pitch. Werth then doubled to score Morgan and Smeenk.
The Highlanders regained the lead with two runs in the seventh. Hawkins singled, advanced to second on a passed ball and moved to third on a sac bunt by Ty Johnson. McAfee walked, and Halligan followed with a double to score both runners.
McLennan rounded out the scoring with two runs in the eighth. Jake D'Altrui pinch hit for a single and advanced to second on a passed ball. Karson Krowka singled, and Rodriguez singled to score D'Altrui. Both runners advanced on a sac bunt by Hawkins. Krowka then scored on a ground out by Johnson.
