Happy Thanksgiving

Happy Thanksgiving from the FIllies! The fillies opened up the holiday with their first home game against Richland College. Richland is a hardworking team who gave multiple efforts on the glass. They were lead by #31- Khloe WIlliams and #1- Onyinyechi Okehi with 10 and 9 pts respectively. However, this one was all about the fillies. From the beginning, the Fillies jumped out to a comfortable lead and controlled the score and pace the whole way through. Just about everyone scored, and four fillies were in double digits. #2- Savannah Velazquez lead the way with 16 pts, #11- Avery Young had 14 pts, #10- Sharayah Johnson scored 12 pts, and #13- Tijanae Abbott chipped in 10 pts to round out our top scorers.

During the Fillies Friday and Saturday road stent, they faced off against Columbia State. Columbia State is an athletic team that plays hard and works for rebounds. The chargers scored the first 2 points of the contest, and the Fillies were able to tie the game up and take the lead. Foul trouble plagued the chargers as 2 of their 8 players had 4 fouls in the first half of play. After taking the lead, the Fillies never looked back, outsourcing the chargers in every quarter. Fillies go on to win 75-47. Game leaders against Columbia State were #10- Sharayah Johnson with 17 pts shooting 67% from the floor, #32- Kadresha Smith 13 pts and 5 reb, and #11- Avery Young with 13 pts and 4 ast.

The final game of hoopsgiving for the Fillies was against the South Plains Texans who are a long and athletic team that are lead by #1- Celia Sumbane. The Texans got off to a hot start getting out in transition and finishing the quarter 20-8. The Fillies were able to settle in a bit and get some offense going and hold the Texans to just 9 that quarter going into halftime down 29-21. The second half was a thriller! The Fillies found themselves down by as much as 11 pts, but that didn't stop them from bringing the pressure defensively. Stop by stop and score by score, the Fillies were able to cut into the lead and go up by 1, but the Texans had an answer to regain their lead with an and one from #12- Daiysha Brown, and a transition basket from #5- Matilda Soderlund. With time running out, the Fillies came up short 71-62.

The Fillies finish hoopsgiving 2-1 bringing their overall record to 6-2. Next up, the fillies are on the road to face Jarvis Christian on Tuesday November 29th.
