Week 10 Recap

The Fillies started the week week of play with a bye on Wednesday. Although there was no game for the Fillies the preparation didn't stop. Going into Saturday's match up, the Lady Cardinals of Trinity Valley were ranked #2 in the nation and 4-0 in conference play, and the FIllies came into the match up 3-1 in conference play. To open up the game, there were a few turnovers by both teams, and then the Fillies were able to get on the board first. The Lady Cardinals shortly followed with 2 quick points. The first couple of minutes of play were back and forth in scoring up until the first quarter media time out. After the media, the Lady Cardinals went on a 6-0 scoring run ending the quarter 18-11. The second quarter resumed play, but the name of the game seemed to be turnovers for the Fillies. While the Fillies were able to score, the Lady Cardinals forced 8 more turnovers. At halftime, the score was 37-22. The second half of play opened up, and #4- Ashanti Barnes seemed to be the answer for the Lady Cardinals. The Fillies were able to get a little bit of offense going with #2- Savannah Velazquez and #11- Avery Young with 6 points a piece. The third quarter finished with a score of 57-36. The fourth quarter followed the same tune. Both teams were able to put points on the board, but the Lady Cardinals just outlasted the Fillies. The final score from Athens, TX was 83-56. The Fillies went 3-2 in conference play. 

 

Looking ahead, Wednesday January 25, 2023 the Fillies take on Jacksonville here at home.
