Week 12 recap & a look ahead

This week was all on the road for the Fillies. To start their two game road stint, they went to Kilgore, TX to take on the Lady Rangers. The Lady Rangers are an athletic, aggressive, and very good rebounding team. Going into the match up, the Lady Rangers were 3-4 in conference play. The first quarter of play opened up and both teams were able to find the basket early on. A couple of turnovers and quite a bit of offensive rebounds given up led to the Fillies finding themselves down by 4 at the end of the first quarter, 14-18. In the second quarter, the Fillies were able to get some stops and put up some points. The lady Rangers were still very dominant on the offensive glass getting them some second chance opportunities. However, the FIllies kept battling which led to a 1 point lead going into halftime up, 38-37. After halftime, the Fillies came out with a vengeance. Score stop score was the motto. The Fillies out scored the Lady Rangers 23-10. In the fourth quarter, the Lady Rangers were able to force turnovers and continue their very dominant rebounding performance. However, the Fillies were able to continue to find the basketball and hold off the Lady Rangers for a road win to finish up the first round of conference play. Some notable performances were #11- Avery Young with 26 pts (3-3 from 3pt)& 3 ast and #5- Gionna Carr with 12 pts & 6 reb. 

Part two of the road stretch was stationed in Paris, TX. Paris is hardworking, tough and scrappy. The Lady Dragons were coming off a win against Jacksonville coming into the match up. The Lady Dragons got out to an early lead in the first quarter by as much as 10 pts. After the first quarter of play, the score was 17-10. The Fillies regrouped and came out in the second quarter on fire. 24 points to the Lady Dragons 11 gave them the push they needed to change the tide and go into the half up 3, 31-28. The third quarter of play was pretty back and forth making it a 2 point game going into the fourth quarter. During the fourth quarter, the Fillies went up by as much as 9. The Lady Dragons cut the lead down to 3. The Fillies were able to knock down free throws and come away with the win. Four Fillies were in double digits. #1- Lyric Scott had 13 pts & 5 reb, #4- Gabby Owens had 12 pts, #10- Sharayah Johnson had 17 pts & 5 reb, and #11- Avery Young had 16 pts & 5 reb. 

The Fillies are back in action at home this week on Wednesday, February 8, 2023 against Blinn for our sneaker game. Wear your best kicks for Coaches Against Cancer. Also, Saturday, February 11, 2023 is our Pink out game so come out and support. Saturday is also a double header with the men playing after.
