Week 15 Recap (TVCC & Jacksonville)

This week the Fillies took on the Trinity Valley Lady Cardinals and the Jacksonville Lady Jaguars. 

On Wednesday, February 22, 2023 the Lady Cardinals came to town. Trinity Valley came into the match up ranked #5 in the nation and 11-1 in conference. The Lady Cardinals have depth, they are fast paced, and defensively driven. To open up the game, scoring was matched bucket for bucket. Although the Fillies were able to put points on the board, they were all from the free throw line. The storm was weathered and they were able to go into the second quarter just down 7 to the Lady Cardinals. 

Being able to see some shots go down in the second, the Fillies were able to get some stops and hold the Lady Cardinals to just 15 pts that quarter. Nearing the end of the half, the Fillies were down 8. However, with a few seconds remaining, #1- Lydie Mwamba hits a 3 pointer making the margin 11 with a halftime score of 34-23. 

The third quarter of play started with a few stops from both teams. Before the third quarter media timeout, the Lady Cardinals went on a 17-4 run to stretch their lead out. After the timeout, the Fillies were able to regroup and get some momentum going into the fourth quarter. The third finished out with the Fillies down 55-33. 

The Fillies put together a nice run in the fourth quarter with it being their best yet, but the Lady Cardinals just continued to pour it on offensively. The Finial from Carthage, TX was 72-47. 

On Saturday, February 25, 2023 the Fillies went to Jacksonville, TX to take on the Lady Jaguars. The Lady Jaguars are a team with no shortage of effort. To begin Saturday's contest, the Fillies got off to a hot start. Keeping the Lady jaguars scoreless in the first, the score going into the second quarter was 14-0. 

The second quarter of play started with an and-1 3 pointer by #0- Salaya Holmes. This was a momentum swing for the Lady Jaguars. All the lady jaguars had to do was weather the storm. The second quarter was all in favor of the Lady Jaguars. They were able to go on a 17-7 run against the Fillies. Going into halftime the score was 21-17. 

Halftime was used to refocus, and the Fillies were able to come out in the third quarter and get stops. Holding the Lady Jaguars to 5 points this quarter along with upping the scoring. However, this scoring run wasn't until the Lady Jaguars pulled the game within 2 points. 

The Fillies were able to finish the game with a win. Although the Lady Jaguars outscored the Fillies 14-9 that quarter the Fillies finished the game with a 43-36 win. #24- Emily Mandamin hit 4 3's on 4-7 shooting to help the Fillies to a win. 

The Fillies have TJC next. They travel to Tyler Wednesday, March 1st.
