2023-2024 Season Preview

Despite being voted to finish 6th in the Region 14 conference, the Fillies are ready to exceed expectations. Under the guidance of second-year head coach Chelsea Hudson , the team is ready to showcase their skills and teamwork.

Panola will compete in three classics in the preseason, including the Midland W.N.I.T, the Trinity Valley Budke/Serna Classic and Kilgore Evelyn Blaylock Classic. Non-conference match-ups include games against NJCAA preseason ranked opponents South Plains & Odessa as well as a trip to Waco to take on McLennan. 

This season Panola will feature 14 players, 13 of which are brand new to the program. Hudson's sole returner is sophomore post player Tijanae Abbott, who is currently playing on the volleyball team. 

 Players to Watch:

  • Transfers: 

  • Taja Stephens, a sophomore transfer from Midland College, brings experience and a competitive edge to the team. Her previous collegiate basketball background makes her a valuable asset, and her leadership both on and off the court will be crucial for the Fillies' success.

  • Paige Taylor, a sophomore from Murray State College, is expected to bring experience. With an NJCAA tournament appearance last year, Taylor's leadership & knowledge of what it takes will be an added bonus to her abilities on the floor. 

  • Freshmen:

  • Awa Fane is a young talent to keep an eye on. Hailing from Senegal, her international experience adds a unique dimension to the team. With her speed, ball-handling skills, and court awareness, she's expected to make a significant impact on both ends of the court.

  • Hannah Young, a freshman forward from Avondale, Arizona, is a versatile player who can contribute in various ways. Her athleticism, rebounding ability, and scoring potential will be instrumental in strengthening the team's frontcourt.

Season Expectations: 

While the Fillies may have been predicted to finish 6th in the Region 14 conference, they are determined to prove the naysayers wrong. With their commitment, talent, and coaching staff, the Fillies are well-equipped to go #THROUGHTHEWALL and surpass these expectations. They aim to establish themselves as a competitive force in the conference and make a deep run in the postseason.

The 2023-2024 Panola Fillies women's basketball season promises excitement, development, and a competitive spirit. As the first game against Western Academy approaches, fans eagerly await the opportunity to cheer on this dynamic team. It's bound to be a thrilling season for Panola College basketball.
