Awa Fane Makes History in Standout Season at Panola College
Sophomore guard Awa Fane capped off a remarkable 2024-2025 campaign with a collection of postseason honors that not only highlight her individual dominance, but also mark a historic moment for Panola College Women’s Basketball.
Fane was named the Region XIV Player of the Year, becoming the first Fillie in over 20 years to earn the prestigious title. Her impact on the court was undeniable — she led Region XIV in scoring, averaging 19 points per game, while contributing 4 rebounds, 3.2 assists, and 3 steals per contest during league play. She also emerged as Panola’s leader in steals and co-leader in assists, solidifying her role as both a scorer and a playmaker.
Her efforts earned her a spot on both the Region XIV All-Conference and All-Region teams, further cementing her status as one of the most dynamic players in junior college basketball.
The accolades didn’t stop at the regional level. Awa Fane was honored as an NJCAA First Team All-American, making her the first Fillie to receive national recognition since the 2016-2017 season.
Awa’s historic season not only raised the bar for individual excellence but also brought national attention back to Panola College, rewriting the program’s history books and setting a new standard for future Fillies.
