Way to bounce back Fillies! The Fillies traveled to Hawkins, TX to take on the Jarvis Christian Bulldogs on Tuesday, November 29, 2022. The Bulldogs are a scrappy-fast paced team that looks to get downhill drives to create offense. Although the Bulldogs controlled the tip, the Fillies controlled the game from the beginning. Early on, the Bulldogs were able to take the lead briefly, but the FIllies had an answer for that! The first quarter was pretty high scoring with multiple Fillies chipping in to the 19-17 lead at the end of the quarter. From there the gas pedal was mashed, and the FIllies never looked back going into halftime up by 9, 42-33. The second half was a continuation of the first half dominance. By the end of the contest, the Fillies managed to have 5 in double figures. Scoring was lead by #32- Kadresha Smith with 20 pts and a perfect 6/6 from the free throw line. #4- Gabby Owens had 14 pts and 9 reb, #11- Avery Young and #12- Coy Mason had 10 pts and 9 reb a piece. To round out the double digit scorers, #5- Gionna Carr had 10 pts, 10 reb, and 5 ast to finish the game. #2- Savannah Velazquez also added 5 ast to the mix getting her teammates involved.
On Saturday, December 3, 2022 the Fillies were back at home to take on Temple. Temple is a fundamental team that can run with the best of them and really fill it up offensively. The first quarter both teams came out strong. Multiple lead changes occurred and plenty of fouls were called. Both teams combined for 18 free throws in the first quarter. The second quarter was pretty even in scoring with the Fillies scoring 17 and Temple scoring 16. This gave the Fillies a 4 pt lead going into halftime with a score of 37-33. After halftime, the Fillies picked back up right where they left off. The 3rd quarter effort was lead by #5- Gionna Carr & #11- Avery Young who had 9pts a piece in that quarter. From here, the Fillies never looked back and went on to win the game! The Fillies were lead by #5- Gionna Carr with 22 pts and 4 stl. #11- Avery Young with 22 pts, 6 reb, and 6 ast.
The fillies are back in action to open up Region 14 conference play on Wednesday December 7, 2022 in Brenham, TX to take on Blinn.
